ABOUT DIABETES DIFFERENT TYPES OF DIABETES AND CAUSES BEHIND DIABETES:

Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the pancreas fails to function normally. Either there is not enough production of insulin or the body fails to convert glucose to glycogen. This harms the body cells due to lack of glucose for its functioning. At the same time harm the organs as well on exposure to glucose. Chronic disease management of diabetes if skipped can cause serious health hazards. It can cause harm to heart, kidney and even eye sight.

Causes of diabetes: Diabetes causes vary with types. Classification of diabetes based on causes is discussed below:

Type 1: A case of auto immuno attack the body’s immune system attacks the cells of pancreas (gland producing insulin). Causes are environmental factors, viral infections etc.

Type 2: Type 2 diabetes has roots of genetic origin. Causes are life style, food habits, excessive alcohol consumption etc. Gestational diabetes (developed during pregnancy period) also comes under this classification.

SYMPTOMS SHOWN BY DIABETIC PATIENTS AND METHODS OF MANIFESTATION:

Symptoms shown are different for different types, for:

Type 1: Excess stress, urinary infections during childhood, nausea and vomiting,

Type 2: This type of diabetic patients won’t show any kind of symptoms. With the progress of time type 2 Diabetes can lead to blindness, renal and artery failure, cardio vascular diseases etc. 

Diagnosis should be made as early as possible when a person shows the above symptoms skipping of chronic disease management of diabetes can lead to coma and death.

Other common symptoms are: frequent urination, high thirst, muscle loss, hunger etc.

Special manifestation tests are adopted for diabetes. The common method is a blood test to determine the blood sugar level after fasting for 8 or 10 hours. For confirmation of diabetes the patient is also asked to have a highly sweet drink after this blood test. High blood sugar levels indicate diabetes.

TREATMENT AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOLLOWED FOR DIABETES:

The treatment methods are individualized, depends entirely on the habits and life style.

The medication given to patients of type 1 diabetes is insulin injections. Adequate amount of insulin is injected directly to meet the insulin needs. Diabetes is better controlled and prevented than treated control and preventive measures are:

1. Change in food habits cutting down extra carbohydrates and calories.

2. Regular physical workouts which help body to regulate blood sugar level.

3. Quit smoking and alcohol consumption.

4. Medications to control blood fat and sugar level.
