Obesity is a situation in which excess body fat accumulates to an extent which affects the health of a person and also his life span. Body mass index (BMI) a measurement made to compare height and weight of a person is used to determine whether a person is over weight or under weight. Obesity though by itself is not a disease it increases the chance for many diseases such as heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, cancer, breathing problems etc. Obesity is the most leading and the most preventable chronic disease, chronic disease management of obesity is an easy task with the willingness of the patient to control his diet and to follow exercise routines.
1. Diet: The calorie content and fat content in the diet of a person is a major reason for body fat accumulation. Total calorie consumption has been found directly related to obesity. 
2. Lifestyle: Obesity is found more frequently in people who lead a sedentary life. Lack of physical activities due to the increase in less physically demanding office works and increase in television viewing time has made a large group of people physically inactive.
3. Genetic: Polymorphism in various genes contributes to appetite and metabolic nature of a body. Studies based on inheritance patterns have revealed that more than 80% of off springs of obese parents exhibit obesity.
